Growing up the son of a carpenter and a touch-typist, I learned early to make things with my hands. In my teens, I studied at the Art Students League, got into, and dropped out of, The Cooper Union, and went on to life as a lawyer.
Twenty five years after leaving Cooper, I started to paint and now make paintings in both oils and acrylics. In my portrait work, I try to capture the rock star in everyone, whether you can carry a tune or not. I strive to create portraits that depict motion, progression, or a life lived over time.
My paintings are informed by my love of the people, faces and places of my native New York City and my adopted home town of Ithaca, New York. With every new urban landscape I create, each painting marks another block of Manhattan or corner of Ithaca I have explored and can call my own.
My newest passion is to paint portraits and invite people into my art studio via webcam and Skype video feed. Though I enjoy painting from life, if I cannot travel to meet you beyond the East Coast of the United States, I will paint you from photos or live over the internet via Skype video feed from wherever you are in the world.
I welcome your inquiries on sales, studio visits, portrait commissions, or requests for new prints or products.
