The Housing Court Volunteer Lawyers Project is offering training to attorneys interested in helping self-represented Landlord/Tenant litigants. Give them three (3) course evenings [May 5th, 12th and 19th] and they'll give you nine (9) free CLE credits in exchange for your commitment to counsel pro se litigants for 12 hours over the course of an entire year. Once again, the Civil Court of the City of New York is offering a free CLE program for attorneys with five or more years of admission to the New York State Bar to serve as arbitrators in the Small Claims Parts of the Court. Want to be a Small Claims Arbitrator?

If so, contact Gail Johnson at the NYC Civil Court at 212-374-8175. The next training program, scheduled for Jan. 15, 2004 ( 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.) at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, prepares and certifies attorneys to become pro-bono arbitrators in the Small Claims Parts of the New York City Civil Court in all five boroughs. Participants must have a minimum of five years admitted to the New York Bar in order to be eligible.

Starting Jan. 1, 2004, the Small Claims Parts now hear claims for up to $5,000.
